Sorry to hear about Joe. This annoucement he made me think about how people move in and out of our lives.

In the summer between our junior and senior years, I went on one of Mrs. Koster's trips to Europe. Joe, Bud Love, Terry Evans, Steve and David Gould, were also on that trip. After that trip, Joe and I hung out a lot together. His Dad was the city salesman for Binzwanger glass. So, naturally, Joe and I got into the topical fish tank building business. We built tanks for friends in college, restaurants and offices. With Brian Boles, we made several trips to Garner State Park, where I met a really nice girl and dated for 4 years. They also made me go to UT early for frat rush. (a lot of drinking) Joe and Gary Weber were roommates at UT. We all lived in the same dorm and had many adventures together, including hunting trips to his Dad's lease in Cherokee, Tx.

After college, we did not see each other for years. Then in 1980, I bought a house in Cypress. Remarkably, Joe's brother, Mike, was friends with my neighbor. So, we reconnected, and went on many duck and goose hunts on my lease in Katy. I sold that house in 1986, and haven't seen Joe since. I can't explain why, just life.

I lost my Dad a few weeks ago. That has caused me to reflect on the people that move in and out of our lives. While we may not see them for years, the friendships that we make along the way, last forever.

Farewell my friend, see you on the other side.

Joe and I met in 9th grade when his family moved in on the corner on Viking Drive. We had a lot of adventures from then through high school. Lots of Friday nights when we didn't have a date, we listened to the radio and played pool in his garage. Or we would go cruising in his blue Camaro. There was one memorable weekend we went to Garner State Park with Ken Homfeld. All was well until the thunderstorm soaked us. We drove into San Antonio, got a cheap hotel room, and pushed two single beds together that the three of us slept across. Joe's dad took us rabbit hunting on a lease near Uvalde. I'm clueless about hunting, but I shot a rabbit - a jack rabbit that Joe's dad made me skin and take home. He didn't believe in killing anything you weren't going to eat. I think I saw Joe last when we were sophomores at the University of Texas. Farewell old friend.

So very sorry to hear about Joe - like Jesse said, we had a great trip to Europe during that summer of 1969.  Truly, one of the nicest guys ever!  So many good memories of Joe and our European escapades.
