What I Remember
Posted Thursday, May 6, 2010 03:41 PM

I remember the rolls and apple jelly from the cafeteria. On the last day of school we (not sure who "we" is at the moment) ordered an entire tray. It was awesome. I remember Terry Evans and Debbie Landis sitting at the table. Who else?

Write about a memory. See David Ford's profile story/comment to help you get started...

I remember gym the day I went out for the track team huffing and puffing around the track, due to my sneaking a smoke. Yes, I was one of those dummies that hid around school with other dummies draging on a cigarette and getting caught by teachers.

I  remember that all the guys had to swim nude (skinny dip) in the pool, because we were lazy and didn't take our wet swim trunks or gym wear home stinking up the locker room.

I remember drama when Miss Blount took us all to New York to see all the plays and a group of us went to Sardi's Restaurant. Where I order wine for the first time in my life at 18 years old and tasted it when the waiter brought it out my first words "the wine is to bitter"

I remember my english teacher Mrs Jones when we had a school project to make a short film. That was my first and last career as a movie director. I directed the short film to a Johnny Cash tune, but it was good enough to win first place at the Rice Film Festival.

I remember sneaking over to the Chuck Wagon for lunch and getting caught a couple of times.

I had and still have a lot of fun memories of my days in high school, but I remember mostly working after school at one of my Dad's Texaco Service Station. Back then my brother Tom and I would not only fill up your gas tank, but clean the windows, check the tires, check the hood, and even vacuum out your car. Remember when you could fill up your gas tank for less than $5.00 and even get money back to take a date to a drive-in movie?

Those were the days my friends, we thought they'd never end, Jimmy!
